Automated sheet metal storage

Galmet is a well-known supplier of heating equipment. The company, which has been in the market for over 40 years, is constantly developing its product portfolio, offering equipment adjusted to current market trends. Galmet’s offer includes, among others, heat pumps, solar sets, recuperation systems, water heaters, central heating boilers or hybrid heating systems. The company regularly invests in the development of its machine park to ensure the highest possible production efficiency and quality.
Features
To organise the storage of sheet metal and cut-out details, we installed two automated storage systems on Galmet’s production floor – a MonoTower single-column automated storage system and a TwinTower double-column automated storage system.
The TwinTower automated storage system is equipped with 55 shelves, each with a load capacity of 3,000 kg. 24 shelves with a useful height of 90 mm are used for the storage of raw metal sheets with a maximum dimension of 3 m x 1.5 m, and 31 shelves with a useful height of 175 mm are used for the storage of raw metal sheets and cut parts that enter the storage system before being sorted and transferred to the next production stage. The TwinTower has an access point moving along the short side. This access point is equipped with a depalletiser, enabling a package of metal sheets to be easily separated from the pallet. The storage system implemented, with a height of 7.9 m, is capable of storing up to 165 tonnes of material.
The second automated storage system installed at Galmet is the MonoTower single-column sheet metal storage system, which, like the two-column version, is equipped with shelves with useful heights of 90 mm (8 units) and 175 mm (14 units) to store raw sheet metal and cut parts. The 6.8 m high storage system allows 66 tonnes of material to be stored in an area of less than 22 square metres.
Both storage systems are equipped with Smart WMS Standard software with a combined database. As a result, from the panel of one storage system, the operator can view the stock levels of both storage systems, ensuring fast and precise material flow management.
